Brandon Maxwell is a designer on the move! He’s a down-to-earth lively Texan native with a flare for designing clean structured gowns and is very soon sure to be in demand by Hollywood celebs and New York socialites alike.
Maxwell started as a fashion assistant and stylist. He gets the credit for transforming Lady Gaga’s wardrobe from eccentric meat-based costumes to that of elegant chartreuse, reshaping her image to reflect her as the talented and business savvy entertainer that she is… and he still styles her on a regular basis.
Brandon Maxwell just launched his own self-titled label in 2015 in New York City. I met up with him at a private reception at Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills to celebrate his new women’s RTW collection now being carried in all of their stores. Stylist Philip Bloch and stylist and FabLife TV show co-host, Joe Zee were both in attendance.
Brandon Maxwell’s lines are clean and structured, with solid basic colors as his canvas, which add a modern sophistication and power to a timeless style. All of his gowns and suits accentuate the beauty of the woman, seemingly without trying to compete with her.
His label is very much in its infancy, but the very next day after the reception, Maxwell was nominated for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Swarovski Award for Womenswear and won the award in June 2016. In August 2016, First Lady Michelle Obama wore an ivory-colored Brandon Maxwell strapless gown for the state dinner in honor of Singapore’s prime minister. He’s had an incredible year and could become the next Jason Wu or Narciso Rodriguez. He’s showing at NYFW 2017 before designer Zang Toi and I predict we will see much more of him in the coming 2017 year.
